Happy holidays! As a gift, here's a new entry after... 6 months...! To be clear, the lack of entries hasn't been for my interest in Chameleon diminishing; If anything, I’d say it reached the highest it's been in this time! Which means I have a lot to ramble about, and the longer I leave this the more stuff I have to talk about, which then makes writing this even harder!! Aghh!!! So: different format this time around. Firstly, the most obvious thing (if you’re not new here):

New page designs !!?!

I’m so glad with how these came out! These are now easier to read, load quicker, and fit the site's general aesthetic better. The ‘my graphics’ page has also been re-designed, so now all of the site is visually united! I've archived the old designs, but don't really see a point in putting them up on here yet.

You, most probably, have also noticed this is on a new page. Starting out, I decided I was going to keep all entries on one page, but after seeing the length from only four entries… Endless scrolling!! Besides, my navigation probably wouldn’t have worked as well with more entries. >_^ Before I get into What I’ve Been Doing Online After The Last Entry, I have something to say about:

What I Was Doing Online Before The Last Entry

A close up of Chameleon grinning in a blue suit, with white text reading 'chameleon' and a white heart below it, surrounded by a white stamp border.…Which was making this chameleon stamp, on which finishing I started writing the diary entry; yet I managed to somehow completely forget to mention it. X_X Memory issues aside... This was my first time using GIMP and I refused to watch a tutorial (BORING), so I struggled a bit. In my opinion it turned out pretty alright! Although, maybe a better image next time? I’d like to figure out how to make a gif stamp next.

What I’ve Been Doing Online After The Last Entry

  • Made some progress on screenshotting every panel he’s in. I’m nearly done with the Amazing Spider-Man comics!

I… relapsed back into TikTok for a hot sec. I know!! But, I didn’t do my usual passive browsing, I actually made some sorta high effort videos! And I only viewed Spider-Man content, which led to me finding TWO more artists on tiktok who love chameleon too! I’m pretty sure I’ve checked TikTok for Chameleon art before, so I don't know how I missed them… Anyways, super cool art! I printed some for my wall. Speaking of which, time to show you the new and improved:

Shrine

Ta-da!!! (Ignore the big black blobs lol, I took this picture later when I put more stuff up ;p) I’ve put up more pictures and some comics, & gained a trading card and chameleon plush! (Which is... not seen in this image!)

The Plush I Sold My Soul (£30+) For

Aaa I was obsessed with winning this from the first moment I laid eyes on it… Winning, because, unfortunately for me with my luck, this is a theme park reward. I lost the first year, missed my chance the second time, didn't know it was there the second year and third time, until finally, fourth time the charm, I finally took him home with me!! It only took… £30 (not including the first time)… euf. But, he is so fluffy and silly and delightful and I love him so it was WORTH IT!! He’s also one of the biggest plushies I own.

Card

!!! There’s actually quite a few trading cards of Cham, and here’s the first in my collection! Most of these cards go for £2 max, so it’s basically like when you get yourself a little treat. This one’s seller was lovely and even gave a freebie card, but unfortunately it got lost in the post :(. They sent another out though, with another freebie!?! :D This one got to me safely, with Nightcrawler as the gift. I gave it to my sister who loves X-Men and Nightcrawler especially, she carries it around with her in my bag. I did put my card in my bag too, but right afterwards I got in a (minor) car crash, so I don’t think chammy's good luck…

Goodbyes

OK, I had some other things to talk about… but this is sufficiently long enough and I need to get this out already! Especially since, tomorrow, I'm going to see Kraven the Hunter in the cinema which I am BUZZING about, and will most likely write about here. It has a high chance of being shitty, but I get to see my boyyyyy. Also, I have a tendency to enjoy films everyone rates as shitty anyways.

Shrine Update

It’s time to finally unveil those black blobs shown in the last post, and show new things in this post!

This is the Spider-Man: The Animated Series Chameleon figure produced by Toybiz, in 1995. He’s indeed rather goofy and scuffed – but I’d say so is the actual Chameleon, it adds to the charm! I love his Gun Shaped hand, and the pin is VERY COOL, even if I can’t actually use it. I’ve thought about buying another one out of the box (I could put him and the pin in my ita bag…) but that seems a bit Too deranged for now. Maybe if we make it to a fifth anniversary, haha! Or, maybe, if I pray to the thrifting gods hard enough and find him at a charity shop or car boot sale. A gal can dream!

On the 20th of February, I got my hands on this beautiful figure that was pre-ordered for £24.99! It’s produced by Hasbro in the Marvel Legends series, and is basically better than the Toybiz one in everything (except for having a cool pin). He's so so pretty (and lowkey serving goth) with the facial shading.

FREE from his boxed containment, he and his magazine now live, breathing fresh air, on my bedpost and bedside table. I used to have him displayed in his box, because apparently he’s made out of lead, which made me a bit concerned, but ultimately I decided his place was within the shrine… The magazine's a nice recap of his history, and the figure itself is great, I love the pose.

Some different comics have also found their place in the shrine! The upper layout now consists of 5 comics, 2 of which are new. This year I finally got my own card, so I’ve been ordering a lot more things, including of course comics. I purchased Spectacular Spider-Man #242, Spectacular Spider-Man #244, Web of Spider-Man #52, and The Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1. It’s ordered oldest-newest, left-right.

Additional Notes

A Kraven the Hunter 'review' IS in the works! It’s a bit harder to write considering it’s been.. Months… since I’ve seen it and my memory is shocking, but I WILL GET IT DONE!! I’m also drafting an analysis of The Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1. Hopefully, I'll be making more frequent entries here now that I've changed how I view it. I don't feel as worried to reach a certain length, have multiple things to talk about, or format it in a specific way now. A lot of the times the only thing holding me back is myself. :') (woah just like dmitri frfr)

Will add to this/edit whenever ^.^

TSSM Notes

YouTube video with all his scenes (By me ehhehe. If I find a version I can screen record with better quality I'll remake it, with better cuts as well hopefully.)

  • 'What did he steal?' ehhehe

  • ‘Spider-Man must be quite confused right about now >;)’ OK SMUG BASTARD. AHUT UP !!!!
  • nice.. voice..... oufh........
  • Voice acted by Steve Blum.
  • Uses masks! No sci-fi belt or melting face here, just dorkiness!!
  • 'Which captain of industry or higher political ranking are you posing as this time, Chameleon?' It might just be for the name drop but I wouldn't be surprised if neither of them knew his actual name, despite him knowing theirs.

  • 'MY INSECTORALY WARNING SYSTEM' ???
  • Why does he use such big words.. why are his quips so bad.. this loser...

  • Can't perfectly imitate Spidey's voice.
  • Visably different physique than Spidey.
  • 'We need to goooo!!' Sass lol. He keeps up the act even when it's not needed. There's this, the scene at the start where he's still using Curt's voice when no one's around, and he was STILL attempting an imitation of Spidey even when the only person there was... Spidey??? He's commited to the bit!

  • Almost dramatic while acting as Norman in these scenes? eg that overtly shocked face before quickly dialing a number, 'no i mean GRAB him', 'are myself... and MENKEN'. I wonder how much his interactions with Norman, who was most likely in 'Green Goblin mode' (I guess??), affected his later portrayal of him.
  • ^ Unrelated but watching those scenes made me think of Professor Hidgens from The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals.

  • Doesn't know how to fly a plane, or at least thinks Norman doesn't know how to.
  • He's sooo confused through this whole scene haha

  • Hmm, with Norman and Curt it's the exact same model and voice, while with Spider-Man there's a notable difference. This is because he was used as a surprise to the viewer when disguised as Curt & Norman, but being highlighted as an imitation while as Spider-Man. I suppose the canonical reason he looks visibly different is because Peter's a teenager. He’s not seen to be imitating any women, either.

From s8.org's Ask Greg:

  • Q: 'When you were doing research on Spider-Man to write the show, were there any characters, especially villains, who you discovered and immediately felt like you wanted to use?'

A: 'Yep. Vulture, the Big Man, the Enforcers, Hammerhead, Electro, Lizard, Shocker, Sandman, Rhino, Tombstone, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, Black Cat, the Sinister Six, the Burglar, Venom, Mysterio, Tinkerer, Kraven, Calypso, Master Planner, Colonel Jupiter, Silver Sable, Ricochet, Silvermane, Molten Man, Hobgoblin, Scorpion, Hydro-Man, Carnage and Kingpin.'

  • Q: 'Is Chameleon a Skrull?'

A: 'The Chameleon is not a skrull. Unless he is. But he's not. Unless he is.'

  • Q: 'Who came up with the idea to frame Menken? Was it Chameleon or Norman?'

'Norman. But it was less a frame than a misdirection to lure Spidey into a trap.'

  • Q: 'Why does Chameleon-Norman need to hire Gargan to find Menken? In the episode, Chameleon-Norman is told by the Oscorp employee that the only people that can remove Menken's address from the Oscorp database would be Norman or Menken. I thought that the real Norman would know where Menken would be since Menken says that Oscorp rented the apartment for him? I'm just confused on why the real Norman wouldn't know and tell Chameleon-Norman where Menken's location would be in order to lure Spider-Man to Menken.'

A: 'It's been a while, but I think the point was to maintain the illusion that Menken was missing and that Norman didn't know where to find him. The real Norman did, of course, know where Menken was.

  • Q: 'Did the Chameleon know that Norman was the Green Goblin when he was hired? When Norman was unmasked, Chameleon had a look of shock that seemed like 'THIS is what I was hired to pose as him for?!' before he turned to look at Harry. Or was his look just "The cat's out of the bag"?'

A: 'I don't think he was told or knew when he was hired, but I'm guessing he must have figured it out sometime before the mask came off.'

  • Q: 'In the final shot of The Spectacular Spiderman, we see what appears to be Norman Osborn boarding a plane. My question is: Was that really Norman Osborn or the Chameleon in disguise?'

    A: 'It was Mr. Roman.'

  • Q: 'Does Peter realize the Curt Connors that came into the lab when he was there in Persona was Chameleon? Does the general public think the Spider-Man who broke into the lab was Chameleon?'

A: 'I'd have to watch the episodes again.'

  • Q: 'Some sites have pointed that Chameleon's real name is Dmitri Kravinoff. Is this true?'

    A: 'No comment.'

  • Q: 'Since Kraven appears in season two, is it possible that there will be any of the Chameleon and Kraven ties explored on this show? They have a lot of history together in the comics, being half-brothers and all.'

    A: 'No comment.'

  • Q: 'Are Kraven and Chameleon siblings or half-siblings in this series, as they are in the comics? Is Chameleon's surname Kravinoff in this series?'

    A: 'No comment.'

EEEE ALRIGHT For context, on 26th May 2023 I first reblogged these comic panels from Amazing Spider-Man #375: Panel one: Sergei as a child is reaching towards an apple in a stall on the streets. Behind him and facing away is the merchant trying to comfort Dmitri, who's crying with scrapes on his arm. The captions read 'Yet the primal fear of the still-immature prey somehow strikes a responsive chord-- --recalling a vivid memory of the yound hunter's own struggle to survive in the european urban jungle... ...with the aid of another of nature's predators. Panel two: Sergei, who's displaying the stolen apple, and Dmitri grin at each other with the caption: While one pursued the passive path of deception, the other honed his aggresive stealth skills--. Panel three: Sergei bites the apple sitting next to Dmitri on two crates. Caption reads: '--and together both survived the hunt...'

The concept of this was SO interesting to me, so of course I went on my usual comic site to read it. Except, the only story that was to be read was 'The Bride of Venom'. Maybe the OP got the comic volume wrong? Yet, there it was on the issue's Marvel Fandom wiki along with a full synopsis. I looked around on other online comic sites- nothing there either. Deciding I couldn't do much else, I kept it in the back of my mind as a mystery.

On the 3rd of May, when I found Marvel Ultimate had a 7-day free trial. This was it! I'd finally be able to read all of the stories; after all, why wouldn't the OFFICIAL Marvel reading site not have them? ...As you've already likely guessed, there wasn't anything there either. Now there was only one option, the one I dreaded the most: asking someone about it. Terrifying, I know.

The original post was made in 2014, and the OP's last post was in 2020, so asking them most likely wouldn't have any response. I thought my best bet would be asking a seller and so found someone on Vinted (it felt more casual) selling it. Except, I was still too nervous to ask. Instead, I reblogged that post again in hopes maybe someone else would know something about it with this added text:

'I CAN'T FIND THIS STORY ANYWHERE... 💔💔 i even signed up for a 7-day free trial for Marvel Unlimited to see if it was in there, since it's. y'know. Official. BUT IT WASN'T ??? i've thought of asking someone who's selling it if the story is in there but i'm too socially anxious lol,, so i might just have to buy it'

WELL, today I put my big girl boots on and told myself if the item was still up on the selller's page, I'd ask. It indeed was still up, and I got confirmation that 'Echoes' was in ASM #375! I immediately bought it for £16.16 (including shipping), and proceeded to jump around for a while to get all my excited energy out >_<

The seller said he'd send it tomorrow, so I reckon it'll be here by the 10th at the latest. I don't have access to a scanner but I'll try to upload the pages on here as best as I can!
